Pagan cultures often sacrificed people as rituals and atonements, hoping to please their gods. It is so
sad that so many people are led astray in trying to appease gods or even God. They will NEVER be able to do enough good things or sacrifice enough. Even some
who call themselves Christians think they are being saved by all of the good
things they are doing and all the sacrifices they are making in their life.
These ancient people realized that they needed, "a perfect
human sacrifice". What they did not realize is that their sacrifices could
never be perfect and therefore could never save them. Only God's one and only, sinless Son could be the "perfect human sacrifice". His choice to
bare the sins of the world so that the gap between The Holy God and a sinful people
could be bridged made it possible for our sinful stains to be washed away and
us to live in eternal worship of Him instead of eternal damnation.
"Jesus paid it all,
All to Him I owe;
Sin had left a crimson stain,
He washed it white as
snow..."*
