Hi Ashton, how are you today? Could you introduce yourself?
Hi! My name is Ashton.
Could you introduce your band?
What inspired you to start writing and recording songs?
I'm not really sure, it kind of just happened. I started playing guitar a few years ago and would play songs with a couple friends. We thought it'd be fun to start a band while writing and recording songs.
What part do you play in the band?
I play guitar usually, but I'd be interested in using piano or violin in our songs. I also sing.
What dreams do you have for yourself as an artist?
I'm basically keeping my options open. I'd like to study music in college, and I'm not sure where I'll go from there. I'd like to continue using YouTube, either for Goldcrest or making my own channel eventually. I get stressed out really easily, so I have to pause and make sure I'm actually doing what I want to be doing and not what I think I should.
What about for the band?
We're trying to focus on having fun. I'm not sure if we'll continue it for just a year or years, but part of doing it is learning how to make our own music. We're creating our own harmonies and learning different instruments, and our plan is to start recording and posting some videos. Hopefully that'll happen this summer.
What genre is your music?
We've tended to stay in a pop genre when we're writing our own songs. They're usually dreamy and a bit melancholy. When covering songs we'll do any song that we like.
What is your favorite genre of music to listen to?
Alternative, pop, folk, and contemporary.
What is your goal in making music?
To inspire people. :)
How does your faith play into your songs?
I believe anything I come up with that's slightly decent enough to show to other people comes from God. Without Him my music or any inspiration I was striving to show wouldn't really have a point.
If you could spend a day with any modern musician who would it be?
Probably Adam Young from Owl City.
Why?
He's a big inspiration to both me and Tori, and we imitate his style of music. He's also a Christian and it's really cool to hear him talk about that.
If you could spend a day with any musician from the past who would it be?
One of those classical music artists who could play like fifteen instruments...
Why?
They'd be fun to talk to. :P
What advice do you have for aspiring musicians and singers?
You are never too old to learn an instrument.
I think it was 2 or 3 years ago I taught myself guitar. I've done piano a little since I was 10, and just a few months ago I started taking violin.
Also it's really easy to copy all these other singers, and it's good to learn from them, but I think it's really important to be your own person. Which sounds very cliche, and I know everybody says that. ;)
Thanks so much for being on my blog Ashton! Any last remarks?
Thanks Lisbeth! ;)
